In-Office and Take-Home Whitening
The teeth whitening process will begin with an initial consultation with Dr. Hamrick, who will conduct a thorough oral examination to determine whether teeth whitening is the best treatment option for you and the underlying reason why teeth whitening is necessary. Although teeth whitening can be effective at correcting superficial issues, for serious and internal stains it may be necessary to consider other treatment options like dental crowns or porcelain veneers. Dr. Preston Hamrick will discuss which treatment option is best suited for your needs at your initial evaluation.
If it is determined that teeth whitening is right for you, the process will begin with Dr. Hamrick cleaning and preparing your teeth. Once they are ready, a special solution is painted to your gums to provide protection from the peroxide compounds. Next, a paste-based whitening agent or gel is applied to your teeth and left in place for several minutes. During this period, a UV light is used to speed up and increase the power of the whitening process by exciting the oxygen molecules in the peroxides. Once the process is complete, you can immediately start enjoying your bright, white smile that can be up to 10 shades whiter!
In addition to the in-office whitening procedure, Dr. Hamrick can also provide customized professional grade trays that can be used at home during your next dental cleaning appointment. This option is often recommended for patients with tooth sensitivity issues and/or for individuals who would prefer a more gradual whitening of their teeth, compared to the dramatic change in whiteness that will result following an in-office teeth whitening.
