Invisalign for Corrected Missaligned Teeth
Everyone wants to feel confident in there smile, and yet so many of us walk around feeling embarrassed of our smile due to some imperfection. Having a smile that makes you feel self-conscious can have several negative consequences, such as:
- Diminished self-confidence
- Impeded ability to positively present yourself in social and professional situations
- Limited sense of openness and joy
If something about your smile makes you feel self-conscious, there is no need to continue feeling this way. The most important thing we want you to know if you schedule an appointment for a cosmetic procedure is that we want you to feel like you can share your concerns with us as well as your personal treatment goals.
Treatment included Invisalign and Veneers
Although orthodontics are the traditional method for correcting misaligned teeth, there are several different cosmetic procedures that can also be effective in straightening teeth or correcting gaps in your smile. Veneers and dental bonding are two of the most common treatment options to straighten and reshape your teeth to correct gaps in your smile or minor orthodontic issues, creating a more even, aesthetically pleasing smile. For more serious misalignments, other cosmetic treatment options such as Invisalign may be necessary. Invisalign is a popular alternative to braces that eliminates the need for wires and bands, and instead straightens teeth using a series of clear plastic aligners.
As a native of Greenville South Carolina and fourth generation dentist, Dr. Preston Hamrick is proud to serve his community by developing personal relationships with all his patients and working hard to understand their needs and goals. Invisalign Process
The Invisalign process begins with an initial consultation with Dr. Hamrick, who will conduct a thorough oral examination to determine whether Invisalign is the optimal treatment option for you. Patients with severe misalignment issues may require traditional orthodontic treatment. If you are a viable candidate, Dr. Hamrick will develop a personalized treatment plan based on your unique needs.
The Invisalign process will straighten your teeth with a series of custom aligner trays that are designed to move your teeth approximately .25mm per day. These thin, removable trays gradually increase in size until your teeth are properly aligned. The number of trays required to achieve correct alignment will depend on the severity of your case. For mild cases of misalignment, the Invisalign process may only take six months, whereas teeth that are more crooked may take over one year. Regardless of the severity of your case, it is essential to wear your aligners for at least 20-22 hours a day to guarantee results. It is also important to follow good oral hygiene habits to reduce your risk of developing additional oral health issues. Provided you stick to these guidelines, Invisalign can be a wonderful treatment option that will provide you with a bright, straight, healthy smile in a manner that is so discrete, most people will not even realize you are wearing the trays.
Maintaining Your Straightened Smile
Although it is essential to keep your trays in for at least 20-22 hours a day to achieve the results you want, one of the benefits of Invisalign is that the trays can be removed. Following every meal, remove and brush your trays. You can also remove your trays before eating, but this is not necessary.
Once the Invisalign process is complete, the best thing you can do to maintain your straight smile is to follow good oral hygiene habits. Be sure to continue brushing and flossing your teeth twice daily, eat a healthy and balanced diet, and avoid use of tobacco. We also encourage our clients to schedule regular dental cleanings at least every six months to ensure the health and sustained brightness of your smile. In addition to giving your teeth a professional cleaning, these visits are also an opportunity for Dr. Preston Hamrick to evaluate your overall oral health, as he looks for any indications of gum disease or any other underlying issue that may require treatment. If you follow these best practices, you will enjoy a bright, white, healthy smile for many years to come.
