Case Study 2

The patient in the pictures had severe damage to his front teeth, including wear, fractures, and existing fillings. To restore the teeth and improve their appearance, full coverage crowns were recommended. The old filling material was removed, and the teeth were reshaped to prepare for the crowns. A small string was used to ensure a perfect impression before taking it. Provisional crowns were made on the same day for the patient to see and approve the desired outcome. Finally, the permanent crowns were placed one week later, and the patient achieved a natural-looking smile. The gums between the front two teeth will continue to heal over the next few months. The patient was happy with the final result.

Step 1

This patient presented with severe damage to his front teeth. They were very worn down, had multiple existing fillings and were beginning to fracture due to the amount of wear. In this situation, full coverage crowns were recommended due to the amount of tooth structure lost. The esthetic goal of the patient wanted his teeth to look natural.

Step 2

The old filling material was removed and the teeth were reshaped for full coverage crowns to prevent further breakdown.

Step 3

A small string is packed around each tooth in order to get a perfect impression. This string is taken out right before the impression is taken.

Step 4

These are the provisional crowns that are made in the office on the day the teeth were reshaped for crowns. These provisionals (temporaries) allow the patient to view the desired outcome and make sure he approves prior to making the final crowns.

Step 5

Final crowns in place 1 week after cementing the on. The gums between the front two teeth will heal over the next few months.

Step 5

Final crowns. The patient was very happy to get this natural looking smile.
