Porcelain Veneers
Everyone wants to feel confident in there smile, and yet so many of us walk around feeling embarrassed of our smile due to some imperfection. Having a smile that makes you feel self-conscious can have several negative consequences, such as:
- Diminished self-confidence
- Impeded ability to positively present yourself in social and professional situations
- Limited sense of openness and joy
If something about your smile makes you feel self-conscious, there is no need to continue feeling this way. Porcelain Veneer Process
The porcelain veneer process begins with an initial consultation with our South Carolina dentist Dr. Hamrick, who will conduct a thorough oral examination to determine whether porcelain veneers are the optimal treatment option for you. If so, your next appointment will begin with Dr. Hamrick numbing the area to reduce or eliminate discomfort. Dental sedation will also be available to ensure you remain comfortable throughout the procedure. Next, Dr. Hamrick will prepare your teeth by removing approximately .5.-.7mm of your enamel to make space for the veneer, then he will design an impression customized to the structure of your mouth and determine the exact shade of veneer to match your surrounding teeth. A temporary veneer will be provided while your custom veneer is being made.
At your follow appointment, the temporary veneer is removed and the porcelain veneer placed. Dr. Hamrick will ask you to open and shut your mouth and move your mouth side to side to ensure proper placement and that you are not experiencing any pain or discomfort. If you experience any discomfort while doing this, let Dr. Hamrick know so necessary adjustments can be made. If you do not experience and discomfort and are satisfied with the shape, color, look and feel of the veneer, Dr. Hamrick will bond the veneer into place using an etching gel on the surface of the tooth to improve adhesion for approximately 20 seconds, after which the gel is washed off and the veneer attached to your tooth with dental cement and a blue light to activate the chemicals in the cement. Once the bonding is complete, Dr. Hamrick will clean your teeth and make any necessary final adjustments.
Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are a safe and effective treatment option to refresh your smile and restore confidence in your grin. Benefits include:
- Versatile Treatment: Veneers can correct a number of cosmetic issues, such as crooked teeth or small gaps between your teeth.
- Looks and feels natural: In addition to looking and feeling just like your natural teeth, you can also care for your veneers like you would your natural teeth, simply by brushing and flossing regularly and not chewing on hard objects or using your teeth to open things.
- Fast results: Although no two patients are the same, on average the veneer process can typically be completed in two to three weeks.
Healing Process and Maintenance
Following your porcelain veneers procedure, it is important to follow good oral hygiene habits to avoid needing similar treatments in the future. Be sure to continue brushing and flossing your teeth twice daily, eat a healthy and balanced diet, and avoid use of tobacco. We also encourage our clients to schedule regular dental cleanings at least every six months to ensure the health and sustained brightness of your smile. In addition to giving your teeth a professional cleaning, these visits are also an opportunity for Dr. Preston Hamrick to evaluate your overall oral health, as he looks for any indications of gum disease or any other underlying issue that may require treatment. If you follow these best practices, you will enjoy a bright, white, healthy smile for many years to come and extend the longevity of your veneers.
Cost of Porcelain Veneers
For patients with dental insurance, the total cost of porcelain veneers will depend on whether the procedure is covered under your plan, and if so, how much is covered. Our staff are happy to review your coverage to determine whether your plan does cover porcelain veneers and ensure you maximize your benefits and have minimal out of pocket expenses.
